One of the most common questions we receive at Cosmo Mantra is: "Why is my sign different in Vedic Astrology?" The answer lies in the stars themselves.
The Fixed vs. Moving Zodiac
Western Astrology uses the Tropical Zodiac, which is based on the seasons. It assumes that the position of the sun on the first day of spring (Aries) is fixed. However, due to the wobble of the Earth's axis (precession of the equinoxes), the stars have actually shifted backward over the last 2,000 years.
Vedic Astrology (Jyotish) uses the Sidereal Zodiac, which aligns with the actual constellations in the sky. This makes Vedic Astrology astronomically accurate.
Moon Sign Dominance
While Western Astrology emphasizes the Sun sign (your ego/identity), Vedic Astrology places supreme importance on the Moon sign (Rashi) and the Ascendant (Lagna). The Moon represents your mind, emotions, and perception of reality—which, in the Indian context, is considered the lens through which you experience your karma.
Which One is "Better"?
Neither is "better"—they serve different purposes. Western Astrology is excellent for psychological profiling and understanding personality traits. Vedic Astrology, however, is a predictive science. It excels at timing events (Dashas) and understanding the karmic patterns of your life.
